Eagars Funeral Services Ltd
Eagars Funeral Services Ltd has been serving the Taranaki community since 1950. Established in Stratford by Roy Eagar, the business was continued by son John and is now managed by grand-daughter, Casey Martin, who joined the company in 1992. In 1997 John and Casey opened a branch in New Plymouth to meet their client’s family’s needs and that of a migratory shift of the Stratford population. Roy Eagar’s grandson, William, returned home from Wellington in 2004 to join the company and continue to provide Taranaki families with the caring professionalism they have come to expect. In 2005, acknowledging that families now move more than ever before, Eagars employed the services of Kelly Judkins, who lives in Hawera, and now offers Taranaki’s only province-wide service.
Eagars Funeral Services is a member of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand (FDANZ) and have achieved their Griefcare accreditation. It is bound by the association’s Code of Ethics and Conduct and employs qualified, registered staff, which brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the company.
The staff at Eagars Funeral Services respect the choices made by families at a time of loss, and work closely with them to ensure that the service provided is as special and unique as the person they mourn. Regardless of whether a funeral follows time honoured traditions and rituals, or is ‘outside the square’, Eagars believes that the most important aspect of the funeral service is that it is carried out in the way a family has requested. Funerals do not need to be ‘one size fits all’.
Staff Profiles
Casey Martin:
As a third generation Funeral Director, Casey brings a wealth of experience to Eagars Funeral Services. Casey joined the business in 1992, helping her father, John, after she returned from training race horses in Japan. This temporary assistance grew into a full time role and Casey has been actively involved in the business ever since. Following John’s sudden death in 2004, Casey assumed the role of Managing Director and has successfully managed the business along with a busy family life.
Married to Richard and mother to Isaac and Emerson, Casey places great value on family and applies that to Funeral Directing by ensuring families are supported, informed and cared for at a difficult time. Casey takes pride in the fact that Eagars Funeral Services works to provide individual, tailored services and has a reputation for being Taranaki’s caring professionals.
Kelly Judkins:
Kelly entered the funeral profession in 1994. Joining Eagars Funeral Services late 2005 has given her the opportunity to offer her funeral directing experience Taranaki wide, while continuing to provide excellent service to Hawera residents.
Married to Shaun, and with children Dominic and Madison attending school in Hawera, the Judkins are committed to their community. Kelly is currently president of the South Taranaki Victim Support service and is involved with the Business and Professional Women’s Association, while Shaun and the children are involved in local sporting and cultural activities.
Kelly believes that townships in Taranaki benefit from their caring communities and this is something that she will continue to support while working with families when someone has died.
William Eagar:
William decided to join Eagars Funeral Services late 2004 after spending the previous 7 years working in the hospitality industry in Wellington. He has found that the ability to listen to requests and the desire to please that he developed whilst working in restaurants has served him well in his new career.
William is looking forward to furthering his education and increasing his knowledge of this challenging and rewarding industry. William is a very family oriented person, which was one of the driving forces behind his decision to move home, and he understands and appreciates the importance of family.
